Steinway B Grand 1893
(Bel-Air Bay Club's piano - Pacific Palisades, CA)
For the last 29 years (since 1995), I have been the piano technician for the Bel-Air Bay Club

We refinished this Steinway grand in Black Satin
The Action was rebuilt with Renner parts
There were large dents in the casework
All the woodwork was repaired
The keys were chipped and cracked
We replaced the keytops, refinished the sharps
and veneered the worn sides of the keys
There were large cracks in the lid and legs
After repairing the crack we added an extra
support beam under the lid for stability
All the Nickel hardware was replated
At the time of restoration, the music rack was in bad condition. We repaired it as much as possible however after 8 years of use it eventually fell apart and
was beyond repair
As the dimensions of a Steinway B have changed over the last 100 years, it was not possible to buy
a new music rack from Steinway that would fit into the piano. We custom manufactured a completely new music rack copying the original design
We restored this Steinway grand back to pristine condition
We then fitted the instrument onto a new stage dolly and installed a dehumidifier system under the piano
In 2002 I completely restored and rebuilt their Steinway B however over the next 17 years (due to heavy use), the finish got worn and damaged again.
In 2019 I refinished the casework again, regilded the plate, and installed a new Steinway decal
